The Real Mystery behind Sherlock Holmes

We have all heard and joked about the famous and well-known detective Sherlock Holmes. However, besides the fact that he solves mysteries, there is a peculiar past behind this person that many usually seem to ignore.

Through reading one of Sherlock's book published by Jaico, there was a lot uncovered that I must say I didn't know before. Here is a picture of the book cover:

Through the mysteries such as "The Bruce-Parlington Plans" and "The Dying Detective, there is a lot of information that reveals more about Sherlock Holmes as a character.

According to this book, Sherlock is kind of a nice gentleman that has a brother named Mycroft Holmes. Mycroft works as one of the main people apart from the government agency and is essential in carrying out government projects. He has the same capabilities that Sherlock has but is unable to use them for solving mysteries and uses it for his occupation instead. What makes this interesting is because, in some versions of the story, Sherlock is an orphan that is adopted with no family. So many may find that this character has a brother, which is very unknown, quite new and confusing.

Another weird fact about Holmes is that though he treats women nicely, he does not trust or like gender. I would guess that this plays into the unlikable side of Holmes as in other versions he is meant to be a horrible character with crime being his only advantage. In other retold versions of this character, Holmes is depicted as a despicable character who is a drunkard who can solve crimes that make him stand out. This also plays into the fact of Holmes not having any romantic interests or relationships in the book.

Either way, it was really interesting as there are many different versions of who Sherlock could be which leads me to wonder......who really is Sherlock Holmes as a character?
