To capture the entire essence of what Hardy Boys is, just think about Nancy Drew books targeted to a male audience. Either way, both books are pretty good and written in a similar way.
The Hardy Boys are brothers Frank and Joe Hardy who work together to solve mysteries. Their passion came from their father who works as a detective professionally but is barely mentioned in the book. Another key character is Chet who is mostly known for eating a cream cheese and salami sandwich and is absent for most of the mystery.
As usual with most mystery books, it's once you reach the middle that you really start diving deep into the book and its the plot. As for me, this is also usually the point where I can't put the book down and read more chapters. The significance behind corn soup is a Seneca (Indigenous person) mother made it in which its taste is quite popular and well known. It was said several times in the book that the main characters had repeatedly drunk the soup in which the book itself ends with them asking for the recipe. I must admit that this weird corn soup obsession was odd but I guess once you try something, it's really hard to ignore it when you get another chance to enjoy it.
I don't really have much to say about this book so I decided to make a drawing challenge for myself based on the front cover. By this, there is nothing wrong with the front cover and I'm not trying to re-create it in a better or accurate way. As a person who draws girls a lot, I have little experience in drawing other genders so I wanted to try using the cover of this book as a guide.
So here is the cover of the book:
While drawing I must say I had quite some difficulties in recreating male facial features and hair. Obviously it's not going to be the same as the cover as I'm using different drawing and colouring resources. I hadn't really scaled the drawing or anything in which I naturally drew small which is why the characters look quite short. However, this is the beginning of a drawing process in which I have a lot to learn and improve.
Here is the first sketch:
The '???' is just representing my confusion on whether I'm drawing it correctly so don't worry about that.
Here is the final product:
Yea, perhaps it's not the best, but I tried. So this itself is a drawing achievement! I tried to incorporate modern styles into the picture in which I might or might not have had inspiration from Spongebob....🤫
Hehe!
